LALIGA Youth League returns to Malaysia, establishing long-term pathway for young football talent

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 10 October 2025,- The LALIGA Youth League officially kicks-off in Malaysia this week, marking a great step forward for youth football development in the country. Organised by Sambill Park, the LALIGA Youth League is the first official youth competition globally supported by LALIGA, Spain’s professional football competition and one of the world’s most prestigious football leagues.

Following five years of successful LALIGA International Youth Tournaments held not only in Malaysia but also in other countries across the region, including Indonesia and the Philippines, this league, which will see over 150 teams take part, transforms those experiences into a sustainable long-term competition. It offers a direct pathway from grassroots football to the international stage, inspiring the next generation of football stars.

The LALIGA Youth League runs across two seasons: the first from October to December 2025, the second from April to June 2026. It offers a structured, professional, and inspiring platform for players aged U6 to U16 to compete, develop, and shine at five venues across the Klang Valley.

The 2025 league was launched this Friday at an opening ceremony at KSL Esplanade Mall, Klang, featuring captains of every club taking part from U6 to U16 level, alongside representatives from LALIGA, Sambill Park and Footballhub.

Adrian Prol, Head of LALIGA in Malaysia, said: “We are delighted to bring the LALIGA Youth League back to Malaysia, another step in our mission to make a lasting contribution to grassroots football development in the country. Structured competition and education is the perfect way to instill the next generation of footballers with the same passion, professionalism, and values that define LALIGA.”

Daniel Wong, CEO of Sambill Park, said: “The LALIGA Youth League has grown into one of the most exciting youth football platforms in the region, and this year, Sambill Park is setting the bar even higher. Season A 2025 will be our biggest yet; with over 150 teams expected to compete, we’re ready to celebrate talent, passion, and the future of football.”

A professional structure tailored to Malaysian football

The 2025 LALIGA Youth League will take place across five venues in the Klang Valley, including: Footballhub Rimbayu (Kuala Langat), Footballhub Central (Puchong), Footballhub Bandar Seri Coalfield, Footballhub KSL Klang, and Fiezta Arena (Semenyih).

The LALIGA Youth League is split into two divisions:

  • Primera Division: a league for elite academies, including players from SSN (School Sports Network), NFDP (National Football Development Programme), and professional academies.
  • Segunda Division: a league for grassroots and development teams, providing opportunities for all players to compete fairly and grow in a nurturing, structured environment.
Champions of the Primera Division category will earn a coveted place in the LALIGA Youth Tournament 2026, opening doors to international exposure and recognition.
